Who Am I
Hi, I'm Alison Edwards — founder of Edwards Technical Writing, a Victoria-based consultancy specializing in proposal writing, regulatory documentation, and scientific and technical communications.
I combine a background in aquatic ecology (MSc., UVic 2011), environmental consulting, and technical writing (MRU 2016) to help organizations communicate complex information clearly, accurately, and persuasively.
My work focuses on helping clients prepare RFP responses for government contracts, funding applications, regulatory requirements, and technical documentation projects — the kinds of submissions where clarity, compliance, and credibility actually determine the outcome.
My goal is simple: to help good organizations communicate their value clearly and confidently — so they can secure funding, win the work, and meet their objectives.
Who I Help
I help environmental consulting firms, engineering companies, ocean technology organizations, researchers, and small businesses that need clear, compliant, and compelling technical documentation.
My clients are often highly skilled technical experts who are busy delivering projects, conducting research, or developing innovative technologies. They understand their subject matter exceptionally well — but may not have the time, resources, or specialized writing expertise needed to produce the documents that funders, regulators, and decision-makers actually want to see.
Whether the project is:
- Responding to a government RFP — sharpening your proposal so it stands out in a competitive field
- Pursuing grant funding — making the case for your research or initiative
- Regulatory submissions — meeting strict compliance requirements without losing the reader
- Communicating scientific findings — translating technical work into something decision-makers can act on
- Policies, procedures, and training materials — the internal documentation that holds an organization together
— the work is the same: turning technical knowledge into documents that move things forward.
Why People Work With Me
People work with me because I understand both the technical content and the importance of communicating it effectively. Here's what that looks like in practice:
- Scientific training + writing expertise. The combination of an MSc. in aquatic ecology, environmental consulting experience, and formal technical writing training means I can quickly understand complex projects and present them in a clear, organized, persuasive way.
- Attention to detail, commitment to compliance. Government RFPs and regulatory submissions don't reward "close enough." My clients value my ability to meet exacting standards without losing the bigger picture.
- I turn fragments into finished work. Most projects start with scattered notes, partial drafts, and subject matter experts who don't have time to write. My job is to take that raw material and turn it into a polished, professional deliverable.
- Reliable, responsive, easy to work with. I act as a strategic team member, not a vendor — helping clients identify customer priorities, strengthen key messages, reduce risk, and improve the overall quality of their submissions.
If your organization has an upcoming RFP, grant application, regulatory filing, or technical documentation project that needs to be done right, I'd love to hear about it.
